Adopt-A-Highway Program

ISGVF is proud to keep our community's roads clean through PennDOT's Adopt-A-Highway program. We host four cleanup events in 2026 — all are welcome to join us!

What is Adopt-A-Highway?

Adopt-A-Highway is a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) initiative that allows community organizations to take responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness of a designated stretch of state highway. ISGVF is officially registered with PennDOT and has been proudly maintaining our assigned road segment in the Devon area.

Our agreement with PennDOT requires ISGVF to conduct cleanup at least twice per year — once in the spring to coincide with the Great American Cleanup of Pennsylvania, and once in the fall before winter. In 2026, we are going above and beyond with four scheduled cleanup events. This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community, strengthen bonds with fellow brothers and sisters, and fulfill our shared responsibility of caring for the environment around us.

Event dates

All events begin at 7:00 AM and wrap up around 8:00 AM, followed by a complimentary Dunkin' Donuts breakfast. Events take place at ISGVF in Devon, PA.

What to expect

Here's a look at how cleanup morning typically unfolds. We keep things moving so everyone can be done and enjoying breakfast by 8 AM!

7:00 AM
Arrive & check in — Sign the attendance sheet and head to the supply table in the Activity Hall area. Pick up your safety vest, gloves, trash bags, and a litter picker (pick stick).
7:10–7:15 AM
Orientation & group formation — A brief orientation for new volunteers covers the safety rules and what to expect. Everyone splits into groups of 2–3 and receives their assigned zone map along the highway.
7:15–8:00 AM
Road cleanup — Work your assigned zone. Fill trash bags with litter and leave full bags at the curb — the coordinator drives the route to collect them and resupply bags as needed.
~8:00 AM
Return & breakfast — Head back to ISGVF. Enjoy a complimentary Dunkin' Donuts breakfast — egg sandwiches, donuts, coffee, juice, and milk!

Expectations for all participants

PennDOT requires all participants to follow these safety guidelines. A brief review is included at every event, but please familiarize yourself in advance.

  1. 1
The minimum participation age is 8 years old. Participants ages 8–17 must be supervised by an adult (18+) at a ratio of one adult per eight youth. Children under 8 are welcome at the masjid and may help with grounds cleanup under adult supervision.
  2. 2
Always wear your provided safety vest while on or near the roadway. This is a PennDOT requirement — no exceptions.
  3. 3
Stay alert to traffic at all times. Never turn your back to oncoming traffic for extended periods.
  4. 4
Always work with a partner — never alone on the roadside. Groups are assigned by the coordinator at the start of each event.
  5. 5
Do not overfill bags. Leave full bags at the curb for the coordinator to collect — do not carry them back to the masjid yourself.
  6. 6
Stay within your assigned zone. Do not cross the road unless specifically directed by the coordinator.
